Graduate Instructions – Day of Ceremony
Graduates are to wear their caps and gowns to the ceremony and report to the Student Lounge in Mundelein Center. In this designated preparation area, candidates will be given a name and seating card. Keep this card with you at all times during the ceremony. It is essential and you will use it to find your assigned seat and also carry it on stage for the correct announcement of your name.
Purses and other items should be given to family members to hold during the ceremony, since there will be no area in which they can be stored, nor will you return to the same seat after crossing the stage.
Admission to Ceremony – Guests should go directly to the Mundelein Center Auditorium, and should not accompany the students to the graduate preparation area. There will be ample seating in the Mundelein Center Auditorium for all of your guests on a first come first served basis. There are no assigned or saved seats for guests. Guests should be in their seats prior to the start of our ceremony at 1:00 p.m. Guests will not be permitted to take seats during the faculty processional. Tickets are not required for admission.
Academic Apparel
Undergraduate and master’s degree candidates who plan to participate in graduation MUST wear academic apparel that is purchased through the Grad Fair or University Bookstore. Advise the bookstore personnel that you are a graduate of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies and indicate which degree you are receiving. Please Note: The correct tassel colors are as follows: B.A. in Organizational Development and Leadership, B.A. in Management, and the Certificates in Organizational Development, Organizational Leadership, and Organizational Psychology, white; Certificate in Paralegal Studies, yellow gold. The cost of undergraduate academic apparel is $40.95 (inclusive of tax). The cost of academic apparel will increase by $5.00 if purchased after the Grad Fair.
Student Speaker
Candidates interested in delivering the Student Commencement Speech should apply by March 21st. Candidates must be participating in the May 10th ceremony. The speech should be three to five minutes in length, and should reflect on the experiences of students at a Jesuit university. Interested candidates should file a letter of intent, the complete speech typed and double-spaced, and a resume to the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, attention Commencement Speaker Committee, Lewis Towers 401. Please include a daytime phone number and email address where you can be contacted during the semester. The Commencement Speaker Committee will notify the selected student speaker in mid-April.
Certificates: Paralegal Studies, Organizational Development, Leadership, and Psychology
Certificates are mailed to graduates 4-6 weeks after the completion of final classes and grades submitted.
