Elizabeth Coffman, associate professor, is an active documentary filmmaker and film scholar, she helped to found Loyola's Center for Global Media and Documentary Studies. Dr. Coffman teaches courses related to cinema history and theory, documentary studies and production. From 2004 thru Spring 2008 Dr. Coffman was Chair of the Department of Communication. In the Summer of 2008 the department became a School of Communication.

In 2002 she co-produced One More Mile: A Dialogue on Nation Building, which screened internationally at festivals and universities, and was broadcast nationally in Bosnia. She has created video/film installations that have shown in galleries and museums nationally ("Long Distance," Harn Museum, Tampa, FL) and was the Producer/Writer for a "Power to the People Rally"--featuring Michael Moore and Ralph Nader (2003). Currently, Dr. Coffman is co-producing "Veins in the Gulf," a documentary based in southern Louisiana on the disappearance of Cajun culture and the wetlands.

In the field of cinema studies she has published on the history of early avant-garde cinema and body movement, as well as contemporary video practices surrounding violence and new media. Dr. Coffman received her Bachelors degree in English and Political Science from Duke University, Durham, N.C.; and her Masters and Ph.D. in English from the University of Florida-Gainesville. Before coming to Loyola University Chicago, Dr. Coffman was the Chair of Communication and an Associate Professor at the University of Tampa. She maintains a residence in Florida, and, since she is a native Floridian, she visits it during the winter "frequently."
