Positions & Responsibilities - 2008 - 2009 Academic Year

***All applicants must have federal work-study for the 2008-09 academic year.

Black Men’s Initiative Student Intern (1)

This individual will work closely with the professional staff that oversees the Black Men’s Initiative. This individual will help with the day to day operation and goals of the program. The Black Men’s Initiative (BMI) is a retention effort spearheaded by the Department of Student Diversity & Multicultural Affairs in collaboration with other offices throughout the university community. The goal of the initiative is to increase the retention and matriculation of Black men at Loyola University Chicago.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in the organizing and facilitation of monthly meetings
• Disseminate information to participants (via email, Facebook, phone)
• Develop relationships with other organizations and student leaders
• Research relevant information development and enhancement
• Organize inner-group committees
• Additional duties as assigned  


Cultural Programmer Student Intern (1)

This individual will work closely with the diversity staff and university community members to assist in cultural/heritage and awareness month programming and special projects including coordination of food, entertainment and location(s).

Duties & Responsibilities
• Serve as planning committee member for heritage and awareness months
• Assist in planning and execution of events and programs
• Attend events as schedule permits
• Additional duties as assigned

Diversity Council Student Intern (1)

This individual will be the chair of the Diversity Council. The Diversity Council (DC) consists of representatives from student organizations that serve as allies and extensions of the Department of Student Diversity & Multicultural Affairs.  The DC is not only limited to these groups but open to any students that are committed to working with a diverse group of students and committed to enhancing diversity at Loyola.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Outreach to DC organizations for accurate organizational information (executive board contact info, general meeting times and locations, etc)
• Schedule and facilitate (3-4) annual meetings
• Organize Annual DC Welcome Picnic
• Leadership in Diversity Summit committee member (organizational contact person)
• Disseminate (via phone, email, Facebook) relevant and pertinent information as needed to respective members
• Oversee production of DC Newsletter 
• Department liaison for events sponsored by DC organizations (attend events as schedule permits)
• Additional duties as assigned


Web and Advertisement Student Intern  (1)

This individual will work closely with the diversity staff members to maintain accurate and timely updates for the department’s website. There is no prior web design knowledge needed for this position. However, someone who pays close attention to detail and has a familiarity with Microsoft Office is a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities (Reports to Department’s Administrative Assistant)
• Maintain website updates
• Maintain accurate Online event calendar
• Develop departmental advertisements
• Update and disseminate Diversity Digest
• Department liaison for events sponsored by the Unity in Diversity Fund (attend events as schedule permits)
• Department point person for obtaining evaluations from events funded by the Unity in Diversity Fund.
• Additional duties as assigned
