Type 75 Principal Certificate

The School of Education certification program for the State of Illinois Type 75 Principal Endorsement prepares students for leadership roles in public and private elementary and secondary school districts. Acknowledging the growth and diversity found in many of our school systems today, the program prepares students for school district leadership in both urban and suburban school settings.

Prerequisites

To be eligible for the Type 75 Principal Certificate, students must hold a master's degree and have two years of teaching experience.

Program Requirements

The State of Illinois Type 75 Principal Certificate requires 30 semester hours (9 courses and a practicum). Certificate program course requirements may be modified only by departmentally approved equivalents. After acceptance into the program, the candidate's graduate transcripts will be reviewed by the advisor for administration and supervision certification to ascertain the number of courses to be taken at Loyola. A minimum of 21 semester hours, including the practicum, must be taken at Loyola.

Candidates must also have clinical experience appropriate to the endorsement and meet any specific prior experience requirements. All courses in the area of administration and supervision have a clinical experience component as part of the course requirements.

Technology Expectation
All students are provided Internet access to link electronically to classmates, faculty and student services. In order to use these technological resources, all students must have the computer skills necessary to support academic work (i.e., word processing, PowerPoint) and to access e-mail and the Internet.

Continuous Enrollments
Students in certification only programs are required to maintain the status of continuous enrollment during their program of studies. This means that during each semester of each academic year (excluding Summer Sessions), each student must enroll in at least one course. (See SOE Policy: Academic Standing - Continuous Enrollment)

A formal leave of absence may be granted upon request and the approval of the School of Education’s Associate Dean of Student Academic Services.

Candidates in all programs leading to Illinois certification are required to pass an Illinois Test of Basic Skills and a State Criminal Background Check.
