M.Ed. in Elementary Education

(Certification K-9)

The M.Ed. in Elementary Education is designed for individuals looking to make a difference in the lives of children. Graduates of the program will receive a Type 03 Elementary Certificate for grades K-9. An additional endorsement on the certificate is required to teach in grades 5-9. The program of study qualifies individuals for a middle-grade endorsement upon completion of an approved content area. Several university projects and community collaborations further the opportunities for individuals to be involved in a variety of educational experiences.

An integral component of the program is classroom clinical experience. These experiences allow individuals to become involved in off-campus educational experiences, including guided observations, tutoring, attending school board meetings, observing classroom activities, and conducting small group or whole class instruction. Although individuals may take courses during the day or evening, clinical field experiences are scheduled in the morning or afternoon during regular school hours.

This program is ISBE-approved.
