Academic Advising

All students have an academic advisor throughout every phase of their program. All faculty participate in academic advising. A faculty advisor is responsible for helping students select courses and acts as a resource throughout their course of study. Any difficulties a student may have should be discussed with his/her faculty advisor.

Awards

Various honorary awards are granted by the university and/or the School of Education, including:

Alpha Sigma Nu National Jesuit Honor Society
Criteria: Students are nominated by the faculty and invited to apply for membership in Alpha Sigma Nu. This represents outstanding scholarship and the student is required to be in the upper 15% of the class. In addition, service to the school and to the community is considered. The student is required to complete the application which includes an essay on his/her commitment to the ideals of Jesuit higher education, and also submit two letters of reference.

Graduation

Undergraduate Students must apply for graduation/degree conferral.  This is a three-step process. 

1. Apply on LOCUS
2. Complete the Intent to Graduate form
3. Submit the Intent to Graduate form to the School of Education Academic Advisor

Students should apply for graduation a year before they anticipate completing all degree requirements. Failure to meet application deadlines may result in the delay of the conferral of the degree to the following semester. A graduation fee will be billed by the Bursar's Office once 90 credit hours have been completed.

Graduate Students must apply for graduation/degree conferral.  This is a four-step process. 

1. Apply on LOCUS
2. Complete the Intent to Graduate form
3. Take the Intent to Graduate form and Graduation fee to the Bursar’s Office for payment.  The form will be stamped paid.
4. Bring the stamped Intent to Graduate form to the School of Education, Lewis Towers, 11th floor for M.Ed., Ed.S. and Ed.D. students or the Graduate School, Granada Center, 4th floor for M.A. and Ph.D students.

Students should apply for graduation for the semester they anticipate completing all degree requirements. Failure to meet application deadlines may result in the delay of the conferral of the degree to the following semester. A graduation fee will be required with an application for subsequent terms.
