Paid Time Off
Bonus Days
Staff with one calendar year of perfect attendance are given 2 bonus paid days off to be taken in the next year of service. If the employee has one sick or absent without pay day in a calendar year, one bonus day will be granted.
Funeral Leave
Respecting a staff member’s grief, the University allows 3 consecutive paid days off to a staff member (after 30 days of employment) experiencing a death in the immediate family, or 1 day if the death is in the extended family.
Jury Duty
The University supports the judicial system by paying full salary to those employees (after 30 days of employment) who serve on jury duty when the employee has informed his/her department of the call to serve. The Bailiff’s receipt should be returned to the supervisor.
In addition, full-time staff below the Administrative Director Level receives additional paid time off benefits:
Medical Appointment Time
The University encourages all staff to take care of their health. Staff paid hourly (non-exempt) are eligible for eight (8) hours paid time off per year (usually taken in hourly increments) to be used for medical, dental, or vision appointments with pre-notification to their supervisor. Newly hired staff can use this time after 3 months of employment.
Personal Time
Each employee receives two days each year to be used for personal business [pro-rated for new staff]. Newly hired staff employees are eligible after 90 days of employment. If unused by the end of the payroll year, the remaining time can either be paid to the employee at ½ his or her hourly rate of pay or rolled into his/her sick leave or short-term disability bank at full value.
Sick Leave
In general, staff employees earn up to 10 days per year of paid sick time. The amount of leave and/or short term disability benefits vary according to the employee’s classification. Sick leave may be used by a newly-hired employee after the 90-day review period. Details are at www.luc.edu/hr/policy_sickleave.shtml.
Vacation Time
Newly hired staff employees are eligible to use vacation accruals after 6 months of employment.
