Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES)
We are currently putting together an extended pilot program for people to test integration with the BES server. To get your device added to our BES server, contact the Technology Support Center at 4-4444 to make arrangements to drop off your Blackberry device. Your device will be available in 1-2 days. Please call your service provider prior to contacting us to make sure you are on the unlimited Blackberry service plan for the corporate Blackberry Enterprise Server. Do not install any applications or add contacts to your device until it has been setup by ITS.
Once your device is added to the BES server, your email, contacts, and calendar items are wirelessly synchronized to your Blackberry device. This synchronization is bidirectional, so if you add contacts or calendar appointments to your device, they appear in GroupWise.
The Blackberry uses the Novell GroupWise Address Book, (the one that displays your name) to hold your contact information (names, phone numbers, addresses and e-mail addresses.)
You can pre-populate your Novell GroupWise Address Book before receiving your Blackberry; this will save you the time of entering in your contacts directly on the Blackberry.
IT Policy on the BES server will require an eight digit password and will automatically lock your device after 20 minutes. After 10 failed password attempts, the content of your device will be erased requiring you to bring your Blackberry back to ITS to have it restored.
In the event your Blackberry is lost or stolen, you can contact ITS to have your device erased.
