Technology Assistance for Students

1. Getting Help

The ITS Support Center serves as a contact point for technical services such as password problems or questions about your ID.   The Support Center is open from 8:00am-6:00pm, Monday through Friday.  You can contact them at 4-4444 (on-campus) or 773-508-7190 (off-campus).  You can also fill out an online request form or e-mail helpdesk@luc.edu.

If you need assistance with connectivity or telephone service in your room, please log a call through our Call Track System/Service Request at: https://resnet.luc.edu/calltrack/ or call us directly during office hours, Monday through Thursday from 3:00pm-8pm and Fridays from 3:00pm-6:00pm on campus at 4-RNET or 773-508-7500 off-campus.

2. Know your ID

Your Computer ID (UVID) and password provide access to all the networked resources in Loyola's computing labs, as well as your student e-mail account, class registration, and final grades on LOCUS. You may have already received your ID and password when you attended Discover Loyola, but if you didn't you should contact the Technology Support Center at 4-4444 (on campus) or 773-508-7190 (off campus).   If you need help with your password you can use one of these sources:

3. Manage Your Password

Once you have your ID, visit PAM and click "Change Your Network Password". Your password must be at least 8 characters long and have at least 2 numbers. Read this tech tip for strategies for creating a secure password.   Once you've changed your password, set up security questions and answers so you can reset your password at any time without contacting the ITS Support Center if you forget it.

4. Get Your Campus Card

The Campus Card is the university's official identification card; it identifies Loyola students to all members of the Loyola community. The Campus Card provides access to the Halas Sports Center, the shuttle bus, libraries, computing centers, and all campus events.

You can also add Rambler Bucks to your Campus Card account and use it to purchase meals through the University Food Service, snacks from campus vending machines, books from the Campus Book Store, and Computing Center printing services. After you register for classes, get your Campus Card from the Campus Card Office at the Sullivan Center.

5. Visit a Computing Center Lab

Loyola's open-access computer centers are available on campus and provide access to the Internet and a range of software programs used in Loyola courses. To use these resources, login to a computing center machine with your Loyola ID and password. For computing center locations and hours of operation, visit the Computing Centers and Labs page. Printing in computing centers is handled through PrintWise, which charges a per-page fee.

6.  Check Your Loyola E-Mail

GroupWise WebAccess 7 e-mail is provided for all students.   Your Loyola e-mail address is your ID followed by @luc.edu.     Your Loyola-assigned E-mail account will be the primary way administrators and professors will communicate with you. You are responsible for checking this on a regular basis. If you use another e-mail address, you must re-route your Loyola e-mail to this address using the Personal Account Manager (PAM). Learn how to re-route your mail here.

Learn more about it at www.luc.edu/its/email_gw7_students.shtml.

If you have any questions or problems, please contact the Technology Support Center at 4-4444 from on-campus, or 773-508-7190 from off-campus.

7. Register for classes on LOCUS
Loyola's Online Connection to University Services (LOCUS) is your portal to Loyola registration and financial services. Login to LOCUS with your Computer ID and password to register for classes, view your financial aid records, or update your personal information.

8. Connect to Blackboard (http://blackboard.luc.edu)

Many Loyola professors use Blackboard to place course materials online and to conduct a variety of classroom activities. With a Blackboard account, you can retrieve and submit assignments, participate in discussion groups, and even take tests and quizzes online. After you register for classes, you can connect to Blackboard with your UVID and password. NOTE: Not all of your courses will be available when you login -- your professors will need to make them available. If they are not available when classes begin, contact them directly. For Blackboard support, contact blackboard@luc.edu

9. Connect to the Internet (Residence Hall Computing)
Ethernet connections are available in all residence hall rooms at Loyola. You will need a computer with an Ethernet card (most new computers come Ethernet-ready) and Ethernet cable to access the network. Plug your Ethernet cable into the appropriate Ethernet jack in the wall of your dorm room .
