Admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States

Join Dean David Yellen in Washington, D.C. on Monday, March 9, 2009, for a special admission ceremony to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Requirements for Admission:
- To qualify for admission to the Bar of this Court, an applicant must have been admitted to practice in the highest court of a State, Commonwealth, Territory or Possession, or the district of Columbia for a period of at least three years immediately before the date of application; must not have been the subject of any adverse disciplinary action pronounced or in effect during that 3-year period; and must appear to the Court to be of good moral and professional character.
- Each applicant shall submit (1) a certificate from the presiding judge, clerk or other authorized official of that court evidencing the applicant's admission to practice there and the applicant's current good standing, and (2) a completely executed copy of the form approved by this Court and furnished by the Clerk containing (a) the applicant's personal statement (the application and certificate of good standing serve as your personal statement), and (b) the signature of two sponsors endorsing the correctness of the applicant's statement, stating that the applicant possesses all the qualifications required for admission, and affirming that the applicant is of good moral and professional character. Both sponsors must be members of the Bar of this Court who personally know, but are not related to, the applicant.
- $200 payable to "U.S. Supreme Court" to cover the admission fee.

- If you are admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, please call (217) 782-2035 to obtain a certificate of good standing.
Due to the size of the court, only 50 spaces are available. Participants will be selected through a lottery. *Paperwork and payment for the swearing-in must be received by Elizabeth Suffredin at Loyola University Chicago School of Law Alumni Relation's Office no later than Tuesday, September 30, 2008 to be eligible for the lottery. If you are not chosen in the lottery your paperwork and check will be returned to you.

Each person being admitted to the Court may bring one guest into the Supreme Court to witness the swearing-in. Children under the age 6 are not admitted into the courtroom for the ceremony.
Planned Events:
The swearing-in ceremony will take place on Monday, March 9. Activities, such as a welcome reception and tour of the Capitol, are currently being planned for the trip.
Each participant is responsible for making his or her own travel arrangements and hotel accommodations.
