Paris-Chicago: The Photography of Jean-Christophe Ballot
June 13 - August 16, 2009
French architectural photographer Jean-Christophe Ballot celebrates the relationship between sister cities Chicago and Paris. The exhibition juxtaposes formally similar photographs of the two cities, creating a visually rich dialogue. Each image of Chicago is paired with an image of Paris to accentuate the similarities of the two urban centers. In addition to exterior architectural images, Ballot includes images of statuary and interior spaces from the Musée Rodin and the sculptor's studio in Paris.
The exhibition is being held in partnership with the Alliance Française de Chicago, the French Cultural Services in Chicago and the City of Paris - Department of Cultural Affairs. Additional promotional support provided by the Paris Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International Program. The project has been organized by Gayle Tilles, Jennifer Norback Fine Art, Inc. - Chicago and Galerie Beckel Odille Boïcos - Paris.

This exhibition presents a detail from famed artist-reporter Franklin McMahon, and his celebrated collection of Vatican II era and Chicagoland paintings and drawings. Created in the immediacy of on-site location in Rome, the Vatican works stir the soul to historical memory. In tandem with the hope and honesty of Pope John XXIII, and 'out of obedience to an inspiration', these works report significant moments of Vatican Council II and beyond. McMahon continues his technique of reportorial drawing with intimate portraits of Chicago parish life, including people, churches, significant ecumenical movements and meetings.
