- Do you provide a linen service?
No, the Department of Residence Life does not provide a linen service.
- Do you rent refrigerators?
No, the Department of Residence Life does not rent refrigerators.
Apartment-style halls include a refrigerator as part of their standard accommodations.
Traditional-style halls do not include refrigerators, but students are welcome to bring a compact refrigerator with them. The refrigerator must have an average amperage rating of three amps/hour or less and must be no larger than 4.2 cubic feet. - Does the university offer storage?
No, the the university does not provide storage space for personal property. Students who will be on campus during the Summer Sessions need to make arrangements to store their belongings off campus between the end of Spring Semester and the beginning of Summer Sessions and between the end of Summer Sessions and the beginning of the Fall Semester. - Do you offer any guest accommodations?
The Department of Residence Life does not offer any guest housing. You may wish to refer to this list of local hotels.
- Do you offer any housing options at the Water Tower (downtown) Campus?
Yes, the Department of Residence Life offers housing options at the Lake Shore Campus and the new Baumhart Hall and Terry Student Center is now open at the Water Tower Campus. - Do you offer any housing options for the summer?
Summer Housing through Residence Life is only available to full-time undergraduate students who are enrolled in Loyola courses during the academic year and summer. Click here for more information.
- Can I change my roommate/hall assignment?
Currently we are in a "room freeze." This is a practice utilized by many higher education institutions. The purpose of this freeze is to avoid confusion and disruption of students who have already received a confirmation letter of their assignment. Changes at this time would involve the displacement or movement of more than just two people. Room changes can be allowed early in the Fall Semester as open spaces and rooms develop, and students learn more about Loyola and college life in general.
- Can I find a new roommate at Discover Loyola?
Residence Life staff will be available at various times to answer your questions, but assignments cannot be altered. Nearly all incoming Freshmen have been assigned at this time, and shuffling these assignments at this time is not possible.
- What address should I use for deliveries and letters?
Incoming letter mail and packages arriving USPS, FedEx, UPS, Airborne, DHL and all other express services will be received by the Loyola University mailroom. It must be addresses as follows to ensure accurate and timely delivery:

Students can receive package notification in a number of ways:
- A notice in their mailbox;
- E-mail sent to their Loyola e-mail account; or
- A telephone call advising them of a package to be picked up.
Students arriving at the mailroom to pick up a package will be required to present their student I.D. and sign for their package. In the event the recipient is not available, the package will be held in a secured mailroom area. Please be advised that your billing address for cable services, credit card statements, subscriptions, etc. is listed above. - What if I have a maintenance concern regarding my room or building?
Loyola University Chicago uses an online system called TMA Talk to report and monitor maintenance concerns. For more information about the TMA Talk system, or to report a maintenance concern, visit How to Submit a Work Request with TMA Talk.
- Do I have to have a meal plan?
All students living on campus must have a university meal plan. For information on available meal plans, please visit the Campus Card meal plans page.
- How do I add money to my declining balance and/or change my meal plan?
Before you add additional money to your declining balance, note that unused declining balance dollars carry over from the fall to the spring semester. At the end of the academic year, any unused declining balance dollars are non-refundable. You should select your meal plan according to your expected spending habits.
If you do need to add additional money, you can add rambler bucks to your card at any time. For information about adding Rambler Bucks, please click here. Rambler Bucks are non-refundable, but will continue to carry over for every semester. To change a meal plan, students can visit the Campus Card Office in the Sullivan Center for Student Services or fill out one of the meal plan forms on the Campus Card Website.
Students are permitted to decrease meal plans until the January 5, 2007, and increase until the January 26, 2007. For more information, contact the Campus Card Office at 773.508.2273 or visit the Campus Card Website.
- What items should I bring? What items should I not bring?
All rooms come furnished with one bed, desk, desk chair, and dresser per person. Information about that standard furniture is available here. Keep in mind that your room is small and that you will be sharing this space with another person. Talk with your roommate and decide what items you will bring with you and what items you can share.
You should NOT bring the following:- Air-conditioning units
- Ceiling fans
- Dishwashers or other major electrical appliances
- Waterbeds
- Candles or incense
- Drugs or alcohol or any related paraphernalia
- Weapons
- Halogen lamps
- Pets (except fish)
- Large refrigerators over 4.2 cubic feet
- Large sofas or other large pieces of furniture
- Flammable liquids
- Fireworks
- Heirlooms or expensive jewelry
- Students living in traditional halls (Campion Hall, Creighton, Mertz Hall, Regis Hall and Simpson Living Learning Center) should not bring hot plates, toasters, cooking appliances of any nature, or cup-type immersion water heaters.
