University Chaplain Desgination for SCPS
With the support of University Mission and Ministry, Sr. Jean Dolores Schmidt has agreed to serve as Chaplain for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) as of February 27, 2008. Sr. Jean is available to meet with SCPS students to help explore the successful merging academics, job, family, spirituality and life goals. She will also assist the department by conducting exit interviews for graduates, and helping learn more about the students who make the SCPS community. Moreover, complimenting our continued efforts to connect the student population to the various aspects of the university Jesuit mission, Sr. Jean Dolores will serve as a beneficial liaison between the student population and the various programs, opportunities and events offered through Mission and Ministry.
About Sr. Jean Dolores Schmidt
Sr. Jean Dolores Schmidt has been a devoted member of the Loyola community since 1961. Starting her career with Mundelein college, she has served in various capacities over the years in academic and student services. Since her retirement in 1994, Sr. Jean Dolores has remained in service with the Loyola Ramblers Men’s Basketball as the team Chaplain. She also graciously advised students in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies since the affiliation of Loyola University and Mundelein College in 1991.

The Division of Mission and Ministry, composed of several departments, has the encompassing goal to ‘collaborate with students, staff, faculty, and alumni in the integration of faith, learning and action’. A Chaplain is a person who works with individuals in an organization to help them make a difference in peoples’ lives, in relationships, crisis situations; to help them be loving people and to experience the love of God. In addition, a Loyola Chaplain helps prepare people to lead extraordinary lives.
Many things, including, spiritual and life goals, managing school and other responsibilities, and how to connect to other university services and opportunities.
Yes! All religious faiths are welcome for exploration at Loyola. Although Loyola is a Catholic institution, the issues and topics facing students are universal, and a Chaplain is well equipped to discuss those matters.
Yes, and completely confidential. A chaplain can discuss matters over the phone or e-mail as well.
