Minutes of the Meeting of
February 15, 2008

  1. Introductory Matters:

    The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.

    Minutes of the meeting of January 25, 2008 were unanimously approved.

  2. Old Business:

    Faculty Handbook
    There was a general discussion on whether or not the committee should review the Faculty Handbook before obtaining the consolidated comments from the Provost, General Counsel, and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Health Sciences Campus.

    The importance of obtaining a copy of the revised Faculty Handbook in which all comments and modifications are clearly marked was noted.

    A motion to move forward with a review of the Faculty Handbook once the committee has received the consolidated comments from the Provost, General Counsel, and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Health Sciences Campus, was unanimously approved.

    Documentation for bringing new programs policies and procedures before the FA-UPC
    The document, which specifies documentation that should be provided by anyone bringing new programs, policies, and procedures before the FA – UPC, was revised and there was a general consensus on the substantive changes. Susan Mezey will update the document to incorporate all modifications.

  3. New Business:

    Family Leave policy and Sabbatical policy
    A Family Leave policy and a Sabbatical policy are before the FA-UPC for review. It was noted that these policies will eventually be incorporated into the handbook and will therefore be discussed in greater detail at the March 28, 2008, meeting.

  4. Future Meetings:

    The next meeting will be on March 28, 2008 at 8:30 am.
    The meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:00 am.
