A. Wayne Magdziarz opened the meeting and the members introduced themselves to one another. He then asked for comments from the membership on a distributed list of potential agenda items, and indicated that he would bring the Committee’s suggestions to President Garanzini for his consideration and input in framing the Committee’s work this year.
B. Magdziarz then gave an overview of the WTC and LSC master plans. Xavier Chen asked if the State Street redevelopment project- or other venues on the WTC- could be configured to include enhanced gathering space for students as well as meeting space for student organizations. As part of this discussion, Magdziarz proposed that the third floor of the Terry Student Center, which is rarely used by students, could be reconfigured to meet student’s needs on the WTC. Chen indicated that he would talk with his fellow students and USGA officers to propose a possible reconfiguration of that space to meet student needs.
C. As part of a discussion on green space on the LSC, Jon Heintzelman noted that the north athletic field offers the University a named gift opportunity as part of the capital campaign. In response to questions about the number of classrooms that will be gained on the LSC as part of the University’s master planning efforts, Magdziarz indicated that there would be 38 new classrooms in Mundelein and at least seven new classrooms in the Crown Center.
D. Jennifer Clark then presented the University’s revamped Employer Assisted Housing Program. The goals of the program include encouraging people to live near work; supporting home ownership; promoting the use of public transportation; and stabilizing the University’s neighborhoods. The program is slated to go into effect on November 1.
E. As part of a subsequent conversation on the Loyola shuttle, Bill Laird offered to link
Tim McGuriman up with both student government and the Medical Center in order to assess their needs for shuttle service.
F. Magdziarz adjourned the meeting at 3:30 p.m.
