Meeting Minutes
Minutes of November 16, 2004 Strategic Planning UPC Meeting
Present: Michael Garanzini, S.J., William Cannon, Geri Hudson, Bill Laird, Anthony Barbato, Jon Heintzelman, Marge Beane, and guest,
Tassos Malliaris.
The minutes of the October 10 meeting were approved.
A review was made of the "Check-List of University-Wide Initiatives." It
was agreed that progress is being made on many fronts and that select others
should now be initiated.
With this in mind, the SPUPC recommended the following actions:
Establish a task force on diversity that will study ways to improve the
gender, racial and ethnic diversity in the student body, faculty ranks,
staff and administration; to determine the parameters of an affirmative
action plan; and to set achievable goals for increasing diversity within
each of these areas. (Reference to Goal1.3.b: Develop an affirmative
action plan and regularly review the effectiveness of the plan)
Benchmark student satisfaction across all the schools begins first.
(Reference to Goal 1.4.a. Establish an integrated educational plan to
improve student leadership skills that emphasizes service learning,
volunteerism, and internships)
Establish a working group to assess the future direction of university
libraries under the leadership of Logan Ludwig, Stritch School of Medicine
Librarian. (Reference to Goal 5.4.a: Establish task force to assess future
Bob Ward, Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events, will be invited
to present his plan for enhanced alumni relations and services.
The next meeting will be scheduled for January/February.
