Meeting Minutes

University Coordinating Committee (UCC)
Minutes of the October 24 UCC Meeting, 8:00-9:00 a.m., Room 723, 25 E. Pearson.

Attendance:  Anthony Barbato, Kim Dell' Angela, Bren Murphy, Michael Minnice, Allen
Shoenberger

Minutes of the September 4th meeting were approved.
The "Review of the First Annual Summary of the UPC Issues and Policy Recommendations" was
approved.  It was recommended that the summary be shared with the university along with an invitation to
a UCC sponsored open forum in January.

UPC membership revisions:

Rick Bacchi is the designee for Mary Denesienko on the Staff Affairs UPC
Brian Welcsh, School of Business is the student representative for the Budget & Finance UPC.
The rotational terms of UPC membership for faculty, staff, and students were reviewed and
approved.  A letter from the Provost's office will be sent to each UPC member notifying the new term of
office.  The terms will also be noted on the governance website.
All policies approved by the UPCs will soon be listed on the governance website with links to
the university policy website.

Chair of the Research UPC:

After discussion, the UPC recommended Dr. Allen Samarel as chair of the Research UPC. 
It was recommended that this issue be discussed by the Academic UPC.
Benchmarks to Measure Faculty Productivity:
It was agreed that the question concerning measure of faculty productivity will go to the Faculty
Affairs UPC.

Evening Class Times:

The UCC considered the issue of evening class times an administrative rather than an administration
question.  Discussions on the topic are taking place in the academic arena and a report will be issued
from the Provost's office by April 2004.

Course Withdrawal:

It was agreed that the Provost will investigate the issue of course withdrawal policy in Freshman
Composition with the English Department.  If no resolution can be reached, the issue will be referred to
the Academic Affairs UPC.


Next meeting of the UCC will be Monday, December 8, 8-9 a.m., Room 713, 25 E. Pearson.
