About FSPP
The Family and School Partnerships Program Certificate in Advanced Practice in Schools ( FSPP/CAPS) at Loyola University Chicago is the only post-graduate program of its kind in the Midwest designed to help school-based mental health professionals better assist students in both their academic and psychosocial development.
In the FSPP/CAPS program students learn an integrated whole-school approach to school based practice. This approach stresses the importance of providing thoughtful clinical assessment and intervention while strengthening the systems in which students function. It emphasizes leadership, team building, and collaboration among all members of the school community and the communities in which students live.
Participants in this program have opportunities to do research projects and learn to do evidence-based work to help students, teachers and families improve their ability to handle stressors and build resilience. Through consultation groups, workshops, summer institutes, and online classes, all scheduled to meet the needs of working professionals, participants gain practical knowledge and skills, both remedial and preventive to help students overcome obstacles to academic success and achieve healthy psychological development.
New and Exciting Changes for 2008-10!!!
The new FSPP/CAPS Program will be offering 225 CEU’s (an increase from 138). In most school districts, this is the number of CEU’s needed for lane advancement. The increase in hours was achieved through several changes. FSPP will add one additional two-hour consultation group each year; offer two 3-day summer institutes in place of one 5-day one; and provide 5 Saturday morning workshops each year instead of 4. We have also added a distance learning class to each of the two years, one of which will focus on evidence-based practice and practice based research. The other will focus on Solution Focused Brief Treatment and WOWW, (Working On What Works) an innovative classroom management tool being successfully implemented by many school districts.
All offerings in the FSPP/CAPS Program may be taken as a package or “ala carte”
