In 1996, The Hague University was built on a traditional Dutch canal as the core of a complex of shops, office buildings, and cafes. However, the University itself dates back to 1987 when a number of smaller institutions merged together, some of which originated in the 19th century. Today, The Hague University is a modern educational institute, which creates an optimal study and work environment for its students and staff. It is ideally located adjacent to the city's main railway station and within walking distance of the city center.
The Hague and The Netherlands
The Netherlands is one of the world's most prosperous and international countries due to its role in world trade and its advanced industries and agriculture. It was one of the six founding members of the European Union and The Hague is often referred to as "the City of Peace". Located about 45 minutes from Amsterdam, The Hague (pop. 463,841), an urbane and sophisticated city, is one of four United Nation cities in the world. It is also one of the greenest cities in Europe always buzzing with outdoor activity and an abundance of recreational facilities. It is rich in history and is the home of the central government and the Queen. Throughout The Hague one can explore its well-preserved historic structures, and each square, street and boulevard has its own ambiance. The Hague cherishes its history, yet at the same time stands firmly in the present. This combination gives The Hague its highly individual character and makes it a fascinating place to study abroad.
