The Town of St. Andrews - St. Andrews is a beautiful town of 18,000 situated in its own sheltered bay on the Fife coast, 45 miles north of Edinburgh. It commands exceptional views of the Angus coast and the Grampian Mountains beyond. There are excellent road and rail connections to all of Scotland, Wales and England. The history of the town pre-dates the University (founded in 1410); there was a settlement on the site at least as early as the 6th century AD. Today against the tranquility of the coast and countryside, the ruins of the Castle and Cathedral stand over a town that is alive with students and local trades people. Academic and social life intermingle as people meet and talk in the lanes and quadrangles, at sporting events or at the numerous concerts and University balls. Local and University events ensure a rich cultural and social life for students and the combination of an intimate atmosphere and excellent facilities makes this university very special.
