Safety



Safety is our utmost concern. Our vehicles are carefully maintained to provide safe and dependable transportation. Each vehicle has a folder of information to answer any questions that travelers might have when away from campus. Our vehicles also have Roadside Assistance provided by Enterprise. Specific information is in the key case.


Before You Start...

Driver certification
By signing for the vehicle and noting state of driver's license and expiration date, driver certifies:

  1. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by one of the fifty states.
  2. No one other than approved employees listed on the VRF, who meet all requirements, are authorized to drive the vehicle.
  3. The vehicle will be used for approved university business.
  4. The vehicle will be driven in accordance with state and local laws and regulations.


For your safety...

Become familiar with the vehicle:

  1. Brakes
  2. Gauges
  3. Turn signals
  4. Seat adjustments
  5. Seat belts
  6. Windshield wipers/washers
  7. Horn
  8. Mirror adjustments for blind spots
  9. Headlight switch/dimmer switch
  10. Spare tire and jack
  11. Ice scraper
Check key case for:
  1. Instruction card for emergency repairs and accident procedures
Check glove box for:
  1. Illinois map
  2. Flashlight
Check for ice scraper
  1. This is located in the driver's side door pocket.


During the trip...

  1. Abide by parking and traffic regulations.
  2. Observe commonly accepted rules of courtesy towards pedestrians and other vehicle/equipment operators.
  3. Properly care for the vehicle while it is in your custody.
  4. Secure the vehicle when it is unoccupied.
  5. Return the vehicle at the appointed time.
  6. If you experience mechanical problems during your trip, follow the breakdown guidelines.
  7. In case of an accident, follow the guidelines in the Accident Information Sheet (red) located in the glove compartment. Notify local police authority, Transportation Service, and Risk Management.
  8. Adhere to University Smoking and Drug/Alcohol policies while in a university vehicle.
  9. Operate and park the vehicle in a manner that will reflect favorably on Loyola University Chicago.
