The Wellness Center offers a variety of educational and therapy groups each semester.  All groups are free to students.  Please click on these links to learn more about current offerings:

 

Dissertation and Thesis Support Group

Fridays 2:00 - 3:15 PM
Start Date: September 19 
Completing research projects is difficult work – but you do not have to do it alone.  Please attend a weekly group facilitated by clinical psychologist Tari Mellinger.  The group is open to graduate students at any stage in the process of completing either a master’s thesis or a doctoral dissertation. To request group membership, please contact Tari Mellinger at 508-2530.

 

emotional wellness: group therapy experience

Tuesdays 4:00 - 5:30 PM
Start Date: September 23 
Would you like to further your self-understanding? Are you the kind of person who wants to become more self-aware and are interested in personal growth? Emotional wellness involves the exploration of one’s thoughts and emotional states, and it is demonstrated by an overall comfort with and acceptance of one's full range of feelings. Group therapy speeds up the personal growth process by allowing members to explore with and learn from others.  If you are ready to increase your understanding of yourself and others as you develop tools for building stronger and more satisfying relationships, contact Kristin at 508-8876 or Emily at 508-2749 for more information.

 

grief loss support group

Thursdays 5:30 - 7:00 PM
Start Date: September 18 LOCATION: Simpson Ministry Office
This 7-week group focuses on support and education around issues of grief and loss.  Registration is preferred.  For more information and to register, please contact Colleen Narbone at 508-7004 or cnarbone@luc.edu.

 

 morning meditation and a cup of tea: another weekly mindfulness meditation group

Tuesdays 9:00 - 10:00 AM
Instruction for new members during the first 15 minutes at the Wellness Center
Start Date: September 9 until finals week
Learn how to meditate and incorporate it into your daily life! Benefits of regular practice are increased focus and clearer thinking, reduced stress, increased relaxation, being centered and energized, and peace of mind and body. Sessions are ongoing, newcomers welcome. Contact Dianna at 508‑2544 for more information or sign up at the Wellness Center.

 

peaceful mind: mindfulness group to better manage feelings of anxiety or depression

Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:30 PM
Orientation Dates: Sep. 17 or Sep. 24 
An 8-week mindfulness based program to help individuals better manage feelings of anxiety or depression. Participants will receive a free handbook and CD to help with the daily homework throughout the course. Contact Dianna at 508-2544 for more information or attend one of the orientation meetings noted above.

 

relax to the max: a series of tuesday stress relief workshops

Tuesdays 4:00 - 5:15 PM
Start Date: September 16 until finals week
Relax to the Max is a series of 4 workshops that run throughout the semester.  The 4 sessions allow you learn how to manage stress effectively.  Attend one or as many as you'd like. Contact Dianna at 508-2544 for more information.

 

S.A.F.E.R.

Wednesdays 4:15 - 5:30 PM
Start Date: October 15 
The Wellness Center is offering a therapy group for survivors of sexual assault and abuse: S.A.F.E.R. (Survivors Accepting, Freeing, Empowering, and Recovering). This group will provide Loyola students who are survivors of sexual assault and sexual abuse an opportunity to enhance their understanding of the healing process, coping skills, self-acceptance and empowerment in an atmosphere of mutual support. Please call Matthew Hayden at 508-8885 at the Wellness Center to find out more about the group, or discuss whether it might be right for you.
